Evolutionary theories of homosexuality
Fořt, Jakub ; Kaňková, Šárka (advisor) ; Štěrbová, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis deals with male homosexuality from an evolutionary viewpoint. In the first part, it provides a review of knowledge about the genetic and immunological origin of male homosexuality, this consequently serves as a theoretical base for the main part of the thesis. Regarding the fact that homosexuals leave less offspring than heterosexuals do, it is appropriate to raise a question by which mechanism is male homosexuality maintained in population and what could eventually be its evolutionary role. The thesis summarizes five most influential theories which were constructed in a purpose to answer this question. The thesis also posits and critically evaluates results of empirical research that support particular theories or give evidence against them.

Homosexuality as a health-social problem
LEDREROVÁ, Pavla
The main aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out what are the difficult life situations of gays and the problems that these situations bring. The bachelor thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part I deal with the theoretical starting points for the given topic. I focus on defining homosexuality, dividing homosexuality throughout history, then dealing with it in various countries, defining the concept of coming out, describing the influences of the environment and education on homosexuality. I also focus on the notion of discrimination, defining it and defining it with regard to homosexuality. In the last chapter of the theoretical part, I describe the difficult life situation of homosexuals. I describe here homosexuality as such and other partial problems and situations that homosexuals encounter. Such issues include, for example, registered partnerships, blood donation or sickness associated with homosexuality. The practical part defines the research problem, the research objectives and the research questions. The aim of the research section is to find out the difficult life situations of homosexuals and the problems that they bring. I tried to describe the life experiences of homosexuals sensitively, I also devoted myself to the very sensitive aspects of life, including self-orientation, sex issues and partnerships. The situation has been assessed from a health and social point of view. The research design of anchored theory and open encoding method was used here. The semi-structured interview method was used to collect the data. The survey was conducted with eight informants, who responded to predefined questions that were supplemented as needed. In the framework of the research, eight headings were established, based on the clustering of the most fundamental concepts of research, which are detailed in the research results. The most difficult life situations were the following: recognition with the family informant and reconciliation, generally partnership relations and the registered partnership. In my opinion, it was most difficult for most of them to admit their sexual orientation to the family and face the face themselves.
Possibilities of cohabitation of homosexual couples in European Union countries
BENEŠOVÁ, Veronika
The dissertation thesis deals with the issue of registered partnership and with the attitudes of predominantly homosexual public to that institute, new from both social and legal perspective. The task of the delimitation of theoretical context is to state basic concepts related to the topic. That part deals further with registered partnership, its legal and social aspects in selected European Union countries. The research part includes processing and evaluation of data got by quantitative method of questioning, when opinions of homosexual, heterosexual and bisexual respondents on the current legal regulation of homosexual couples were ascertained with the help of anonymous questionnaire investigation. Also the method of qualitative research in form of group discussion was chosen for processing of the empirical part of the thesis. The goal of the thesis was to ascertain whether the legislation is convenient from the point of view of homosexual couples and whether there are not any forms of discrimination with regard to sexuality. The author deals marginally also the sphere of parenthood in the research part and ascertains whether more female or male couples live together. Last but not least she tries to outline the issue of discrimination. The thesis allows viewing the attitudes of heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual respondents to selected discrimination areas of this issue.
Ethical questions concerning the homosexual partnership
TAUBROVÁ, Květa
This bachelor thesis deals with the topics which are connected with a partnership between homosexual persons. There is a description of few ethic problems, e.g. registered partnership, adoption by homosexual couples, convention and attitudes towards homosexuality in many different cultures and religions. Some important names e.g. Jiří Hromada (an editor of gay magazines and a gay activist) or important organizations e.g. SOHO, STUD, HRHO and many other organizations are mentioned as well. Homose uality was, is and probably will be discussed very much. It is a worldwide topic not only for ethic, but also for religion. Despite the fact that the Bible does not know the word "homosexuality", we can say that homosexuality is rejected by Scripture. (Lv 18,22; 20,13). The possibility of an adoption can be very often a wish of many homosexual orientated persons. That is why some terms connected with a compensatory family care, a procedure how apply for the compensatory family care and a possibility of IVF are concerned.
Problematic life situations of person with homosexual orientation
VESELÁKOVÁ, Jesika
Homosexuality may be encountered in all cultural and historical formations. Different cultures have different views of sexuality, its expression and forms in general. The difference of the homosexual orientation and the way this phenomenon is reflected in the society influences the life of persons with homosexual orientation. Individuals are often confronted with an inner conflict with the heterosexual majority, which may result in his existential stress. Mastering problematic situations in life depends on the personality of an individual with homosexual orientation, the expectations of his/her social environment ambience and the support that his/her surroundings that the individual perceives in this environment. At present, there is increasing interest in homosexuality as a social phenomenon. In the theoretical part, I summed up the Euro-American views of homosexuality and outlined the religious roots of the present-day view of homosexuality. Subsequently, I dealt with living conditions connected with the homosexual orientation. The view of problematic life situations and crises of persons with homosexual orientation was, resulting from the substance of the subject, the most important basis for the practical part of my diploma thesis. The basic objective that I endeavoured to fulfil was to describe the life situations and problems that are connected with homosexuality, seen from the subjective point of view of persons with homosexual orientation. I limited the research area to the actual viewing of one?s own minority sexuality by a homosexual man/lesbian woman, and viewing their social background reacting to their different orientation. The study was intended as qualitative research from the very beginning. To conduct the specific research I chose the attitude by means of the phenomenologic research. The experience that an individual had gone through was recorded by means of an interview and subsequently analysed. This interview created a basis for the description and interpretation of the experience conveyed. Drawing on the facts obtained it is possible to recommend various forms of education activity, the purpose of which is a higher information level in both the homosexually and heterosexually oriented public. Further, I recommend drawing up quality methodology focusing on decreasing the homophobic attitudes in the majority society in the Czech Republic. It is necessary to observe a professional attitude lessons on the topic of homosexuality within sexual education at primary schools, which will be based on a unified methodology. To create a legislative basis concerning adoption and assisted reproduction in the Czech Republic, it will be necessary to adopt measures have to be adopted that will eventually result in an absolute elimination of discrimination of the minority with homosexual orientation.
Comparison of Sociocultural Development in Homosexually Oriented People in Selected Countries of the European Union
KORELOVÁ, Andrea
Opinions and attitudes towards homosexually oriented people and their lives have changed significantly in the last twenty years. Homosexuality is not considered as a sexual deviation any more, and more and more European cultures allow formal and legal existence of the same-sex couples. In some states of the European Union gays and lesbians can become parents legally - they are allowed full joint adoption. The objective of the theoretical part of the thesis was to approach the issue of homosexuality and homosexually oriented people within the context of selected states of the European Union. The main objective of the research part of the thesis was to find out the attitude of the wide public towards the institute of registered partnership (civil union or civil partnership) in the Czech Republic. The partial objective was to survey the public attitude towards the adoption of a child by a single homosexual and towards the adoption of a child by a homosexual couple (full joint adoption) in the Czech Republic. I also wanted to find out, whether the Czech public tolerate the adoption of a child of a homosexual partner or the artificial insemination of lesbian couples. Quantitative research, polling method and an anonymous questionnaire {--} a technique of the research - were used in the practical part.
